Sometimes God has special messages for our hearts; so deep it feels like it hits to the core of our beings. This month has been that way for me. Giving me an image of what true motherhood is....
When I began this homeschool journey, I had so many hopes and dreams, aspirations for what my child "should be", with a list of plans and "to-do's" a mile long.
As the years go by...it's funny. Despite changes in goals & dreams in the hearts of the family, the "to-do" list and "should do" list continue to increase...sometimes exponentially overnight. The comparison bug comes into your life at different times & seasons, creating the image that everyone else has their life under control, they have their homeschool plan perfectly & strategically planned out & execute it daily, and they (fill in the blank).
It seems the further into this life you go, life is bombarded with...EVERYTHING... leaving you truly distracted on God's initial plan for you: motherhood. How easy it is to lose our way.
Sitting in a chair, pondering motherhood & what it means to be a mom, God ignited my passion, my desire for deep understanding of what He desires a mother to be. We are the ones to celebrate their moments, every single moment, because we will never be able to relive them. We are to embrace their hearts & bodies (despite how big they are!!), and rejoice in who they are because God has made them perfect & unique for whatsoever plan He has laid out for them. & created them to be a perfect fit for your family.
We are to encourage always because our words not only carry on today but forever in their hearts & minds. Reminding me that what I say today could devastate along the way. We are to play & correct and make sure we have had an equal balance. We are to invest time...not just sitting next to them, allowing distractions, like the TV, phone, computer, or even a book, removing our focus from their faces. Make sure to look up often or you will miss their smile.
Motherhood is all about knowing their hearts and loving them when their actions are disobedient, displeasing, and even heartbreaking. Being a mom is being willing to lead & teach them the truth about God even when they reject it, trusting God's plan through it all.
Being a mom is recognizing, your children NEED YOU, they don't need toys, the perfect books, the perfect shoes, the perfect diet, the right amount of money.... they need you...they need you to be their mom. They need to be needed. they need to be seen. They need to be loved. They need to have their imaginations ignited & they need a push to get there. Momma...they need you.
So let go of everything that holds you back from giving them you: the clean kitchen, the pristine home, the perfect schedule & plan, the best meals. Let go because they will be grown and all your lists and plans will still remain unfinished & ever growing.
In this season of celebration of true motherhood, celebrate who you have been created to be, a mommy, mom, mother, momma, or even a mum. Don't reject this gift, don't loathe it, don't wish it away, not even for a moment! We are unworthy of this gift of children. Let us praise the Father in heaven for allowing us to take care of His heritage. Let us see these babies as a reward God intended them to be.
"Children are a heritage from the LORD, offspring a reward from him." Psalm 127:3
