Keynote Speaker

Dr. Voddie Baucham
Dr. Voddie BauchamVoddie Baucham wears many hats.  He is a husband, father, pastor, author, professor, conference speaker and church planter.  He currently serves as Pastor of Preaching at Grace Family Baptist Church in Spring, TX.  He has served as an adjunct professor at the College of Biblical Studies in Houston, TX, and Union University in Jackson, TN.  He has also lectured at Southern Seminary.

Voddie’s journey was an unusual one. He did not come to faith in Christ until his freshman year in college.  He was then discipled by two teammates on the Rice University football team.  He preached his first sermon at New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church and was licensed in the gospel ministry in the summer of 1989.  Since then, he has served as teaching pastor, pastor of preaching and minister of missions in several local congregations.

With over 15 years of local church experience, Voddie Baucham has amassed wisdom beyond his years.  Moreover, he has devoted much of his life to training and preparation for ministry.  Dr. Baucham holds degrees from Houston Baptist University (BA in Christianity/BA in Sociology), Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (M.Div.), Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (D.Min.), an honorary degree from Southern California Seminary (D.D.), and additional post-graduate study at the Oxford University.  Voddie and his wife, Bridget have been married since 1989.  They have five children: Jasmine, Trey, Elijah, Asher, and Judah.  They are committed home educators. Featured Speakers

J. Michael Smith is the President of Home School Legal Defense Association, an organization that he helped found in 1983.  Established to protect the right of parents to teach their children at home, HSLDA now represents over 80,000 member families.  Mike and his wife Elizabeth began homeschooling their children in 1981.  He has been defending families for 24 years.  His columns on home education appear regularly in the Washington Times, and he has been a guest on numerous television and radio programs, including Focus on the Family with Jim Dobson and Hannity and Colmes on Fox News. (watch video)

Elizabeth Smith, the wife of HSLDA President Mike Smith, taught three of her four children at home from 1981 to 1996, when the youngest entered college.  For over 20 years, Elizabeth’s practical wisdom has encouraged audiences at homeschool conferences, symposiums, and women’s retreats throughout the United States.  Elizabeth has lobbied on pro-family issues in her state capitol and in Washington, D.C., for the National Center for Home Education since 1993.

Sarah and Stephen Mally (2 homeschool graduates) live in Marion, Iowa, where they are involved full time in their family ministry, Tomorrow’s Forefathers—a ministry encouraging families and young people to be strong for the Lord.  In 2002 Sarah and Stephen along with their younger sister Grace published the book, Making Brothers and Sisters Best Friends. (watch video)

Seminar Speakers

Dave & Susan Johnson serve on the Board of Christian Family Schools.  They have been married 18 years and have taught all of their three children at home from the beginning.  They have a heart for raising up a Godly generation and helping families who are just beginning their homeschool journey.  The Johnsons will be leading our Free Friday night “Introduction to Homeschooling” session.

Adam Andrews is the director of The Center for Literary Education and a homeschooling father of six.  Adam’s enthusiastic style and dynamic seminar presentations have enabled many students to understand and enjoy great literature as never before, while his practical experience and fresh insights have inspired parents and teachers with new vision for their task as educators.

Jim Davis worked for PG&E until 1994, when he joined Roy Hanson at Family Protection Ministries (FPM) as the Legislative Liaison.  FPM is the only full-time ministry working in California’s capitol, to ensure the freedom of parents to educate and care for their children in their own homes privately without governmental interference.  He and his wife Judy have been married for 45 years.

Susan Petersen has been very happily married to her husband for 25 years and is a veteran homeschooling mom of three busy and adventuresome boys.  Her comprehensive guidebook, Fun and Educational Places to go With Kids and Adults in Southern California and accompanying journal, came from a desire to learn and teach by hands-on exploration and education, and to have fun!

Dan Sinclair is a home educator and father of three.  He teaches and speaks on numerous topics and at numerous conferences such as National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, International Dyslexia Assoc., and Council for Learning Disabilities.  He will challenge everyone with this interactive session.

Diego Rodriguez is the founder of the 4th Day Alliance creation astronomy ministry.  The 4th Day Alliance is dedicated to proclaiming the glory of God through astronomy.  They give workshops (for example, How Big is God -- see CFS promotional trailer!), seminars, star parties, and provide homeschooling families support in teaching creation astronomy.  Diego and his wife, Lareina, have 5 homeschooled children.
